Florence at a glance by season
Spring (April–May) is the best time for most visitors: mild temperatures (15–22°C), long daylight hours, blooming Tuscan countryside, and crowds that are manageable compared to summer. Book Uffizi and Accademia tickets at least 2–3 weeks ahead.
Summer (June–August) is Florence's peak tourist season. July and August hit 30–35°C, the city swells with visitors, and many locals leave in August — expect some restaurants and shops closed. The Palio di Siena draws huge crowds in July and August.
Autumn (September–October) rivals spring: the heat fades, vendemmia (grape harvest) fills the Chianti hills, and hotel rates drop slightly from the July peak. October can have more rain but remains pleasant.
Winter (November–March) is Florence's quietest period. November is the rainiest month. December brings Christmas markets and festive atmosphere around Piazza Santa Croce. January–February: fewest tourists, lowest prices, chilly but manageable (5–12°C). Some smaller museums may reduce hours.
